Carpe Diem
I stayed in one of three rooms with two travel companions. We had plenty of space in a huge, airy, well-lit room with high ceilings, a double bed and a single bed. The pension was clean and pleasant. I will, however, state that I was not entirely comfortable there as compared to previous pensions in Europe. Usually, people who rent out rooms in there house are fairly understanding of natural differences among their patrons. There were at least five other girls in the house and we all shared a bathroom. There was heavy traffic in the apartment and bathroom. The lady who ran the house and her mother were pleasant and watchful. We were asked to be quiet at night, use the bathroom quickly, and had an overall 'big brother' feeling during our week stay. I consider us mature women who are considerate and clean. We made it a point to be tidy and keep our belongings with us in our rooms, not in the bathroom since space was limited. When people needed things out of the bathroom while we were in it, however, we were expected to let them into get it. So, the house mother intervened. I felt that being 'talked to' by the house mother was unneccessary as we felt we were fast and efficient. Lastly, one comment bothered me throughout my stay. She had asked my to pay for a night that I was not staying there because of logistiacl reasons out of my control. I would be staying there an extra night on the tail end. She asked me to pay the extra 600 K and I started a discussion to see if I would be able to fanagle my way out of it and she proceed to say that "600 K is nothing to you". I find that extremely presumptious and unprofessional. There are positives about Carpe Diem. The price is 600 K a person. The location is fabulous. The metro is close by and there is a great club and restaurant nearby. I would give it three stars for an apartment/pension using a comparision group of similar places, of course. I hope this helps someone who is considering Carpe DIem for there accomodations in Prague, a wonderful city to visit.
